Have you ever been reading a book that you love, and you realize that there is so much more of the story that needs to be told, but there are only three pages left? Then, it turns out the last page is a total, and complete cliffhanger? Don’t you just want to rip out the page and throw the book across the room? Of course I would never do that because that’s very, very mean and abusive to books.
Here’s an example of what I’m talking about.
In Artemis Fowl the Lost Colony, there’s a part when Artemis and his “gang”, break into Minerva Paradizo’s (The French girl I talked about in my last blog) house, and steal back the demon that she stole. When they escaped, and were in the open, this happened:
“That’s exactly right No1. This is bad. Very bad.”
Of course after that, the chapter ends and your left pulling your hair out. The chapter of course explains what happened, but for that one moment you’re so anxious to know what happened.
There’s another book called Kiki Strike the Empress Tomb, where the end is a total cliffhanger. She accepts something VERY important to the story (sorry, I can’t tell you) and the book ends. And the worst part is there isn’t a third one yet!
Although, cliffhangers also keep you interested in the story. Which I guess is a good thing.
