3 pages left to go

Have you ever been reading a book that you love, and you realize that there is so much more of the story that needs to be told, but there are only three pages left? Then, it turns out the last page is a total, and complete cliffhanger? Don’t you just want to rip out the page and throw the book across the room? Of course I would never do that because that’s very, very mean and abusive to books.

Here’s an example of what I’m talking about.

In Artemis Fowl the Lost Colony, there’s a part when Artemis and his “gang”, break into Minerva Paradizo’s (The French girl I talked about in my last blog) house, and steal back the demon that she stole. When they escaped, and were in the open, this happened:

“That’s exactly right No1. This is bad. Very bad.”

Of course after that, the chapter ends and your left pulling your hair out. The chapter of course explains what happened, but for that one moment you’re so anxious to know what happened.

There’s another book called Kiki Strike the Empress Tomb, where the end is a total cliffhanger. She accepts something VERY important to the story (sorry, I can’t tell you) and the book ends. And the worst part is there isn’t a third one yet!

Although, cliffhangers also keep you interested in the story. Which I guess is a good thing.

Realistic Fiction, I think NOT!

Be honest with me. In what other genre are you going to find a French girl tracking down demons, an elf hunting down a pixie fish smuggler, and a dwarf tunneling through the earth recycling it through his rear end as he goes? Realistic fiction? I don’t think so. Although, please let me know if you ever find a realistic fiction book like that. I’d want to read it.

In case your wondering what genre I’m talking about, I’ll let you know. I’m talking about fantasy. Surprising, I think not. If you are wondering what book could possibly have a French girl, an elf, a pixie fish smuggler, and a dwarf all in the same story line, the answer is Artemis Fowl. There are six books in this wonderful series, and the one I’m referring to at this moment is Artemis Fowl the Lost Colony, or in amateur terms, the fifth one. In my first blog, I introduced some of the most important characters, such as Artemis, Butler, Juliet, Holly, Foaly, Mulch, etc. But there is one character that I’m totally appalled that I didn’t mention the first time. Her name is Opal Koboi. She is a hilarious narcissistic pixie who just so happens to be an evil genius.

There is one hilarious part in the fourth Artemis Fowl where she is yelling at her two employees, Mervell and Scant Brill for staring at her. She claimed it was bad for her skin. She has many rules one being never looking her in the eye, always bow after you talk to her, don’t think too loudly, and above all, NEVER pass wind.

Midnight Quidditch

Here I am again.

There are a few things I need to comment on today. One, I highly recommend anyone to start a blog. Two, start reading fantasy if you haven’t already.

Have you ever had a dream about a book? Have you had multiple dreams about a book? I have had more than multiple dreams about books, those books in particular being the Harry Potter series. After reading that series, more than half of my dreams included Harry Potter, and some other outstanding character from those books. Some of those dreams had nothing whatsoever to do with the book, but they were still satisfying.

Harry Potter left me crying, laughing, and shocked. When I finished the seventh one, I couldn’t even look back at the book because it made me want to read it again, and almost cry because I finished it. It also left me fuming at J.K. Rowling for killing off all the best characters such as:

Serious Black, Lupin, Tonks, Fred, Dumbledore, Snape, Hedwig, Moody, and Cedric Diggory.

Personally, I don’t get what the point of killing off the main characters was, but maybe in her head, it made sense. She had all the right in the world to do that, but why? Was she not happy with her character creations? Did she think the best way to end a series was to kill good characters? Who knows what was circulating in her mind. All I know is, no matter who died, Harry Potter changed my life.

Once you read a well-written fantasy book, it usually surprises you about how much you want that situation to be real. For me, I would totally die to meet the Cullens from the Twilight series, and would beam if I could go to Hogwarts. Sadly, I know it’s not real because I’m 11, and I haven’t received my Hogwarts letter. I’d have to say that’s my favorite aspect of fantasy. You find yourself closing your book, and wanting to check the sky for midnight quidditch players.

Oh, one more suggestion for you. Incase you haven’t noticed, I love Harry Potter. Follow my example, and READ THEM.

This is a fantasy world… we’re just living in it

Hi everyone. My name is Sophia Scorcia. I am here writing about how much I love and am obsessed with fantasy. There are many reasons why I love fantasy, and I am sharing them with you for a school reading “project”. My thoughts about the best genre out there will be on this blog, right here, right now.

Here is one of the reasons why I love fantasy:

Anything can happen. You could be reading about a totally normal scenario like being in a super market, and then all of a sudden, a fairy flies in through the window and captures five employees. Sounds absurd and totally out of the question, but for fantasy, that’s normal.

Another reason I love fantasy is the characters. Anything can happen to them, or the characters can turn out to be something you never expected. For example, there could be a character that is a normal B student, a blogger, a dancer, and a vampire by night. That would be fine.

There’s this book called Artemis Fowl. In this book, there are so many good characters it’s insane. Artemis is a teenage genius, and is completely formal. Butler, his bodyguard, is almost seven feet tall, and extremely strong. Juliet, Butler’s sister, is a teenage girl who is completely fascinated by wrestling, and turns out to be a wrestler with a stage name of Jade Princess. Captain Holly Short is an elf that works in the LEP, or LEPrechaun unit. Mulch Diggums is a Dwarf who is almost too hilarious. Foaly is a centaur and a genius. Do you see what I’m getting at? Fantasy books have the best characters because they are no where near normal.

Thanks for reading. If it wasn’t the best blog you’ve ever read, don’t be mad at my “blogging” skills. I just started.
